Hello everyone!
It has been awhile since we have posted on our page, the reason is we have been VERY busy. With our membership and attendance at our meetings growing we have been a little swamped. But we are here for some good news. The crew has been VERY active on our official Facebook Page. We have mapped out a lot of events for this coming year and have been having a very active cycle of meetings.
Our next official meeting will be taking place on June 6th here in Lake Charles at Paper Heroes at 6:00PM. This coming months meeting will be featuring one Remastered Episode of Star Trek: TNG and watching Big Hero 6! So if you want to join us please head over to our official events page https://www.facebook.com/events/1532430527043903/
Also we are going to have a table at Bayoucon in Sulphur on June 19-21 so come by and say hello!
We plan to post more on our website in the coming months!
Fall 2014 is here and so begins the fun!
How-do, freaks and geeks! It’s now Fall 2014, both officially and weatherly (MAN it feels good!), and the U.S.S. Lafitte staff has some interesting and fun things in store for the approaching mild weather season! But before we get into that, a quick plug for some great folks..
The U.S.S. Orleck is hosting it’s annual “Halloween Haunted Ship” every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from now until November 1st! Admission is $15.00, gates open to line up at 6 PM, ticket sales are from 7 PM until 11 PM. Call 337-214-7447 for further details.
On October 25th, our annual Halloween Party will kick off. Held at long-time members’ Kevin & Deanna Cinquermano’s home in Iowa, festivities include a barbeque, cosplay, a bon fire, special effects, games, videos, music, and other events to make for a memorable outing. Kick-off is at 7 PM, cosplay is optional but encouraged, bring your favorite beverages (alcohol allowed), and be prepared to Hallogeek out! Check out our Facebook Events page for further details!
On November 6th or 7th, USSL/CATS members will be attending the opening of “Interstellar” at either the Cinemark Theater in Lake Charles, or the IMAX theater in Baton Rouge. On November 8th, our regular meeting will be held at Paper Heroes on Ryan St. in Lake Charles, beginning at 7 PM; a screening of “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” and a Next-Gen Trek ep will round out the evening (and remember, it’s BYOF&D there, folks!).
In December, USSL members will attend either the Tuesday-the-16th midnight or Wednesday-the-17th opening of “The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies”. We’ll also once again be hosting our annual Christmas and New Year’s Parties; logistics for these and other up-coming events have yet to be finalized, so check our Facebook page for updates.
Also in December will be our semi-annual “All Hands” planning meeting for short- and long-term 2015. Discussions will revolve around such items as meeting schedules & logistics, Mardi-Gras, Contraband Days, CyPhaCon, BayouCon, other local geek-interest conventions, out-of-town conventions, Texas Renaissance Festival, Halloween/Christmas/New Years parties, movies, volunteering, charity events, memberships, staff assignments, protocols, and so on. So if you’d like input on our activities, don’t miss out on the chance to help lay plans and participate!
Our next posting will be in January 2015, so stay tuned for the exciting “All Hands” meeting results, and remember to monitor us on Facebook!
From the entirety of the U.S.S. Lafitte staff, everyone have a safe and happy holiday season, and hope to see you at any or all of the up-coming USSL/CATS events and meetings!

Sorry about that, but man, we feel GREAT! Summer has drawn to a close (thank the gods), another awesome and fun-filled DragonCon Labor Day weekend trip has been successfully completed (we didn’t want it to EEEND!), Fall, with it’s attendant and highly welcome cooler weather, has arrived, and the U.S.S. Lafitte continues to roll forward with exciting outings and activities during the Autumn of 2013, and the beginning of Winter 2014!
But before we get to that, we’d like to welcome the advent of our area cousin group, the Southwest Louisiana Browncoats! Welcome, guys; many Lafitte members count themselves as Browncoats, so feel free to call on us any time you need anything! SWLA Browncoats Facebook Page

So come pass a good time wit us, cheir, at the U.S.S. Lafitte!
Summer is here !
In Southwest Louisiana, the heat and humidity heralds the advent of Summer, and boy-o-boy is it here! But any seasonal change can inspire, and Summer definitely inspires our crew to gear up for a fun-filled season of events and activities!
On June 29th and 30th, members of the U.S.S. Lafitte will have a table set up at BayouCon 2013 here in Lake Charles. We’ll be soliciting new recruits and gabbing with anyone who wants to come by and say hi.
Sometime in the next couple of months, we will be making an outing to the Johnson Space Center in Houston TX. Along with the many awe-inspiring pieces of space history and heroism on display will be a special treat: The Shuttle Craft Galileo from the Star Trek original series episode “The Galileo Seven”, recently restored to it’s original production glory of 45 years ago, and donated to the center as a permanent display fixture.
On Labor Day weekend, members of the U.S.S. Lafitte will make their annual pilgrimage to Atlanta, Georgia for Dragon*Con 2013. If you’ve never experienced D*C, you’ve been missing out on one of the most unique and fun-filled events in the country! Hundreds of Artists, Authors, Writers, Scientists, Technologists and Sci-Fi/Fantasy celebrities and production crew from film and television are solicited to mingle and hob-nob with the throngs of convention attendees during the 4 day event, held in the convention halls and nooks of FIVE downtown Atlanta hotels. We’re always looking for ‘newbies’ to ‘break in’ to the experience. If you can’t find something interesting and exciting to do at Dragon*Con, you’re dead…Or at least falling down drunk. Yes, that can happen too.
Other events and activities include our monthly meetings and movie outings, all of which will be promoted on our Facebook page. Please “Like” us for the latest up-to-date intel on what’s coming up.
So, stay cool, and stay tuned in the coming weeks and months for exciting and unique activities to attend with the crew of the U.S.S. Lafitte!
