It is that wonderful time of year where the changing of the seasons takes place. The pollen is the in the air, and the cool Louisiana weather is moving on. The sun is shining, the rain is falling, and the bees are a buzzing. But most importantly in the world of fandom, it’s the beginning of what we all refer to as prime time convention season.
That is right, April is the unofficial kickoff of the over the top, and exciting Convention season nationwide. In the South that can mean only one thing, LOTS OF EVENTS. The crew of the USS Lafitte is looking forward to attending some of these big events in the coming months. Our schedules are pretty full and we want to share them with you on our events page. To pose the question, where do we begin? Well, I guess we can start with the one thing that the USS Lafitte members are completely engrossed in year after year. That would be CyPhaCon !
Many do not know this, but a large portion of the USS Lafitte members are actually Board Members, and Volunteers for CyPhaCon. The CyPhaCon staff is not only made up of members of the USS Lafitte but many others from different walks of life. We have an amazing group of individuals who specialize in so many aspects of the convention from Gaming to Anime. In fact our XO and CO are actually in charge of CyPhaCon’s daily operations. As a cohesive group; we all work together week after week to put on an amazing event like no other in Southwest Louisiana. The goal when we formed CyPhaCon was to make a unique experience for the Anime, Gaming, and Scifi Community here in Lake Charles. We have succeeded beyond our wildest dreams. This year will be no exception, and CyPhaCon website has a wealth of information on everything we have planned.
But with all this there are some downsides. As the crew of the USS Lafitte we also learned that working an event and promoting our organization was almost impossible. Trying to recruit over the last 2 years at CyPhaCon was a big problem that we intend to finally rectify at this years event. The USS Lafitte will have a fully manned and staffed fan table this year, as well as sponsoring a unique and fun game at CyPhaCon you do not want to miss. Expanding our reach is very important and with that in mind we are excited to be joining BayouCon as a fan group this year as well.
Convention season is just getting ramped up but we cannot wait to spread the word about the USS Lafitte and to have some fun. So if you are attending any of these events please stop by and say hello!
