How-do, freaks and geeks! It’s now Fall 2014, both officially and weatherly (MAN it feels good!), and the U.S.S. Lafitte staff has some interesting and fun things in store for the approaching mild weather season! But before we get into that, a quick plug for some great folks..
The U.S.S. Orleck is hosting it’s annual “Halloween Haunted Ship” every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from now until November 1st! Admission is $15.00, gates open to line up at 6 PM, ticket sales are from 7 PM until 11 PM. Call 337-214-7447 for further details.
On October 25th, our annual Halloween Party will kick off. Held at long-time members’ Kevin & Deanna Cinquermano’s home in Iowa, festivities include a barbeque, cosplay, a bon fire, special effects, games, videos, music, and other events to make for a memorable outing. Kick-off is at 7 PM, cosplay is optional but encouraged, bring your favorite beverages (alcohol allowed), and be prepared to Hallogeek out! Check out our Facebook Events page for further details!
On November 6th or 7th, USSL/CATS members will be attending the opening of “Interstellar” at either the Cinemark Theater in Lake Charles, or the IMAX theater in Baton Rouge. On November 8th, our regular meeting will be held at Paper Heroes on Ryan St. in Lake Charles, beginning at 7 PM; a screening of “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” and a Next-Gen Trek ep will round out the evening (and remember, it’s BYOF&D there, folks!).
In December, USSL members will attend either the Tuesday-the-16th midnight or Wednesday-the-17th opening of “The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies”. We’ll also once again be hosting our annual Christmas and New Year’s Parties; logistics for these and other up-coming events have yet to be finalized, so check our Facebook page for updates.
Also in December will be our semi-annual “All Hands” planning meeting for short- and long-term 2015. Discussions will revolve around such items as meeting schedules & logistics, Mardi-Gras, Contraband Days, CyPhaCon, BayouCon, other local geek-interest conventions, out-of-town conventions, Texas Renaissance Festival, Halloween/Christmas/New Years parties, movies, volunteering, charity events, memberships, staff assignments, protocols, and so on. So if you’d like input on our activities, don’t miss out on the chance to help lay plans and participate!
Our next posting will be in January 2015, so stay tuned for the exciting “All Hands” meeting results, and remember to monitor us on Facebook!
From the entirety of the U.S.S. Lafitte staff, everyone have a safe and happy holiday season, and hope to see you at any or all of the up-coming USSL/CATS events and meetings!
